Dear JJ,

This entire letter that you wrote is the exact reason why it’s over. I was there for you all the while that

you were away because I thought that the little jail sentence was just a speed bump. I thought that once

you got out we would go back to doing what we do, but you came home all holier than thou like we

can’t get money no more. I’m not going to be living from check to check with you. It was your fault that

you got caught so now you want me to suffer?

The reason that I don’t want to talk to you is because you not in your right mind. What happened to the

stud that I used to be with that would pop bottles in the club by the hundreds and buy out VIP sections

just so that we could make love in the club? You wanna go to school now? For what JJ? You come by my

house smelling like that cheap ass factory that you work in now and I was supposed to listen to what you

had to say? I feel like you let me down. All while you were away, I was paying the bills on our condo. I

was keeping the car payments up with my hustle money. Then you come home and tell me to let all of

it go. You said we could start over. That’s just because you knew that you couldn’t cut it anymore.

Starting over in a one room studio apartment living like folks that don’t know the good life. That’s not

for me. That’s never been for me. When we met, I was in a Mercedes drenched out in gold. That’s me JJ.

You can go to school and chill in church and be broke and normal just to feel like you’re living legit. That

ain’t the legit life. The legit life is the way we used to live, where money wasn’t an object. What, are you

scared to go back to jail? You won’t get caught if you just be smart. If you’re smart enough to go to

college then you should be smart enough to get this money. I’m doing what I do. You should get your mind right and get at me once you do, but as far as this L7 shit

you got poppin’ in your mind, I’ll pass.

Ain’t no love lost, but I ain’t gone let you take me down to the gutter with you.

JJ was stunned by Amina’s response. After reading the letter, JJ dedicated her new life to being just as

great at living honestly as she was living as an identity thief. JJ’s parents were so excited that she wanted

to turn her life around and do things the right way, that they are paying her way through DePaul

University. They’ve bought her a better car, a Ford Five Hundred. It’s no Mercedes, but it was better

than the beater that she was driving after she returned home from jail. JJ is happy with her new life. She

knows that she will be great. She’s majoring in Information Systems with a minor in Economics.
